Patna, May 03: CBI is still vigorously pursuing extradition of Bofors accused Ottavio Quattrocchi to India despite Malaysia's highest court's decision turning down India's plea for his extradition, CBI director P C Sharma said today. "Our counsel Cyrus Das is liaising with the Malaysian authorities for the extradition of Italian businessman for his interrogation and trial," he told reporters here.
The Malaysian court of appeal had on April 30 rejected India's petition against the high court's dismissal of the plea for Quattrocchi's extradition.
Sharma said the Portuguese government had accepted India's request to extradite the Mumbai blast accused and underworld don Abu Salem to the country.
"However, this does not mean that Salem will be extradited in the immediate future as such cases take some time. The Portuguese authorities have accepted our request for Salem's extradition and are processing our request," he said.
Sharma said the investigation into the multi-crore fodder scam in Bihar was over and expressed satisfaction over the pace of trial in the lower courts.
CBI had chalked out an action plan to accelerate the pace of investigation of the cases before it despite it being overburdened. The situation would improve substantially within two to three months, he said.
The delay in taking action against DDA scam accused and former Delhi High Court judge S Mukherjee was not deliberate but due to some legal difficulties, he said.
Referring to the Haren Pandya murder case, he said the investigating agency had made significant breakthrough and the case would be solved on a priority basis. Bureau Report
