Pune, Aug 10: The city unit of Congress today said said it would be filing a defamation suit against BJP leaders over their allegations that several Congressmen were recipients of petrol pumps from the Union petroleum ministry.
Addressing reporters here, president of Pune city Congress committee Mohan Joshi said the Congress would file a defamation suit against BJP leaders Vijaykumar Malhotra and party's Maharashtra unit president Pandurang Phundkar for accusing congressmen of being recipients of petrol pumps through corrupt means.
The BJP leaders had levelled charges on petrol pump allotment issue against Rajya Sabha member Suresh Kalmadi, former MLA Aminuddin Penwale and others from the city, he said.
Dubbing the allegations as a tissue of lies, Joshi said it was meant to cover the misdeeds of the BJP in the petrol pump allotment case.
He said Kalmadi had not indulged in any corrupt means to secure the pump and added that it was with him (Kalmadi) before 1974, when he had taken it on partnership from other pump owners.
