Moscow, June 12: As part of the ongoing process of exchange of bilateral visits aimed at enhancing existing cooperation between the Armed Forces of India and Russia, Army chief Gen Nirmal Chandra Vij will pay a seven-day goodwill visit to Moscow beginning Sunday.
Gen Vij will visit Russia from June 15-21 at the invitation of commander-in-chief of Russian land forces with the rank of deputy defence minister, Colonel-General Nikoai Kormiltsyev.
During his visit the chief of the Army staff is scheduled to see key military training institutions, Russian defence establishments and military industrial complexes in Moscow, St Petersburg and Tula.
The visit is part of a regular and ongoing process of exchange of bilateral visits of senior Army officers and is aimed at further enhancing the levels of existing cooperation between the Armed Forces of India and the Russian federation, an Indian embassy release said.
Indian and Russian Armed Forces traditionally share a warm relationship. Recent Indo-Russian joint Naval wargames in the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal are the manifestation of this relationship.
A large number of Russian equipment forms part of the Indian inventory. Russian T-90S main battle tanks are the latest acquisition by the Indian Army and many ambitious programmes for the modernisation and upgradation of Soviet-supplied hardware are in the pipeline.
