Mumbai, Nov 02: a crucial meeting of senior Congress
leaders in Maharashtra would be held here tomorrow to fine
tune the party's strategy for the forthcoming elections to the
eight seats of the upper house of the state legislator and
polls to local self-government bodies.
The meeting assumes significance in the backdrop of Chief
Minister Sushilkumar Shinde's reported statement that the
issue of alliance with Sharad Pawar-led NCP would also be
taken up for discussion.
Shinde, speaking to reporters at Sangli in Western Maharshtra yesterday, was quoted in a section of media that the Congress leaders would be discussing the proposal of alliance between the Congress and NCP.
Earlier, the Chief Minister had stressed the importance of coming together of secular parties to keep the communal forces at bay. When contacted, the state unit Congress spokesperson Rohidas Patil told reporters that the meeting has been convened to deliberate over Congress strategy for December 01 elections to the eight seats of upper house.
"Similarly, we will be fine tuning our stance for the forthcoming elections to local self-government bodies," Patil said.
