Baghdad, Nov 27: A former bodyguard of deposed Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein was arrested during a US Army raid north of the hotspot city of Ramadi, west of Baghdad, the US military said today. The troops "conducted a raid on a house north of Ramadi suspected of insurgent activity" Wednesday, a central command statement said.

"At approximately 3:00 am (0530 ist), the unit established a cordon of the area and entered the house, capturing four Iraqi personnel. Brigadier General Khalid Arak Hatimy, a former bodyguard of Saddam Hussein, was one of the men captured," it added.

The soldiers belong to the 82nd Airborne Division, 1st battalion, 16th mechanized infantry regiment. A wife and daughter of Izzat Ibrahim al-Duri, who was number two to Saddam, were captured by US forces Tuesday in Samarra, north of Baghdad.
Both Duri and Saddam, who respectively have a 10-million and 25-millon-dollar bounty on their heads, are still on the run.
