Beijing, Nov 26: China has objected to taking India as a surrogate country by the United States to determine the prices of Chinese products and expressed "serious concern" over Washington's decision to slap hefty anti-dumping duties on Chinese colour televisions, the state media reported today. "It is utterly unjustifiable that the us still uses India as a third surrogate country to calculate the prices of Chinese products," an official of the Ministry of Commerce said here.
"Beijing is seriously concerned about a us ruling that has slapped dumping duties on colour television imports from China," the official was quoted as saying by Xinhua news agency.
The US Department of Commerce Monday imposed tariffs ranging from 27.94 per cent to 78.45 per cent on colour television sets imported from China.
The rate is the dumping margin based on the comparison of real prices and normal prices. The department said it plans to hand out its final ruling on April 12 next year.
The latest Sino-US trade friction comes ahead of Chinese premier Wen Jiabao's first official visit to Washington from December 07 to 10.
The official, from the Ministry's Import and Export Fair Trade Bureau, pointed out that most colour television sets exported by China to the US contain parts that China imports from Japan, the US and other countries.
China will keep a close eye on this case, and will continue to negotiate with the related departments in the US to safeguard the rights of Chinese CTV companies, he said.
