Srinagar, Oct 21: J&K tourism department has launched a comprehensive mountain-cleaning programme in different parts of the state in connection with celebration of the international year of mountains. As a part of this campaign, 300 school children from various schools in the vicinity of Gulmarg cleaned up the entire hill resort in north Kashmir, official sources said.
Besides Gulmarg, Kangdori and Khilangmarg were cleared off plastic bags, tins, plastic bottles left behind by the summer tourists.
Student group of 35 each, accompanied by teachers and members of tourism staff, spread out to different areas and collected two truckloads of garbage.


Funded by the Indian mountaineering foundation, another operation on similar lines will be launched by J&K mountaineering and hiking club and state tourism jointly to clean famous Amarnath track in south Kashmir.

A joint team of IMF and national geographic magazine is cleaning Kangri track and mountain base camp in Leh in Ladakh, the sources said.
