Beijing, June 05: Police in Guangzhou, the capital of
South China`s Guangdong province, have broken a large drug
cartel, arresting 10 suspects and confiscating over four
tonnes of "ice" or crystal methamphetamine, the state media
reported today.
Local police uncovered a drug warehouse in a luxury villa
in nearby Shunde city. Following an investigation, on May 11,
they raided the venue, capturing three suspects and seizing
over four tonnes of "ice" as well as several pieces of drug
packaging equipment, police said.
On receiving news of the bust, the rest of the group, including the head, who was named as Ye, fled to the cities of Zhuhai and Dongguan, but were captured by police later that day. Led by Ye, who is from Dongguan, the group, which includes two Hong Kong residents, sent about five tonnes of drugs to the villa in January of this year where it was repackaged and sold outside China, police said.
Police later found the group`s drug workshop in near by Zhongshan city, and the investigation is still in progress.
