Israeli forces in the disputed Shebaa Farms border area fired on southern Lebanon early Wednesday without inflicting casualties, Lebanese police said. About 12 rockets fired from Israeli outposts in the Shebaa Farms slammed in the Majidiyeh valley in southeast Lebanon overnight, they said.

There were no reports of guerrilla activities in the area prior to the incident, which came after a day of skirmishes between Israeli troops and guerrillas of the Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah. On Tuesday, Israeli jets raided south Lebanese areas facing the Shebaa Farms after Hezbollah guerrillas attacked Israeli army positions in the disputed region.
The raids, accompanied by artillery fire, came after the explosion of a Katyusha rocket near the northern Israeli town of Kiryat Shmona, which also injured no one.
No one claimed responsibility for the incident, the first time a rocket was fired from Lebanon on Israel since the end of the Israeli occupation in May 2000.
