Amritsar, July 16: Akali leader Kirpal Singh Badungar
would resign as president of Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak
Committee tomorrow.
Announcing this here today, Shiromani Akali Dal Chief
Parkash Singh Badal said Badungar would submit his resignation
to the SGPC Executive Committee which would meet tomorrow.
Earlier in the day, Badungar offered to resign as SGPC
president in the wake of the recent unity of the two factions
of the Akali Dal led by Badal and former SGPC chief Gurcharan
Singh Tohra.
Badungar made the offer while addressing a gathering here
on the occasion of the conclusion of the three-day "Akhand
Path" (recitation of Guru Granth Sahab) organised by Badal for
the welfare of the party at the direction of the Akal Takht.
Badungar said he had taken up the presidentship of the
SGPC as per the party direction. He was ready to take up any
assignment the high command might give, he added.
