Jodhpur, Oct 02: Union Agriculture Minister, Rajnath Singh said here yesterday that the Centre would soon introduce a new crop insurance scheme that would also include guarantee for minimum support price to farmers for their agricultural produce. Addressing a farmers' fair at Central Arid Zone Research Centre (CAZRI), Singh said the new scheme, to be implemented in about 20 to 25 districts as pilot project initially, would give the farmers the difference amount between minimum support price and the market price below it.
It would be introduced all over the country from next season, he said.
This benefit would also be available to the farmers who do not (not) sell their agricultural produce in market and keep them for their own consumption, he said.
Efforts would be made to provide 70 per cent subsidy on insurance premium, Singh added.
