Kathmandu, Nov 21: Prime Minister Surya Bahadur Thapa has ignored the call by his own party men to quit the
top post he assumed some four months ago, saying he was not
accountable to the party but to King Gyanendra and the people.
Thapa, who is leaving Kathmandu on Sunday for a ten-day
visit to four Saarc countries including India, said last night
it is irrelevant to demand his resignation by the party as he
was not made Prime Minister with the recommendation of the
party.
"I have assumed the top post in a special circumstance and I am accountable to the king and the people, not to the party," Thapa said, responding to the demand for his resignation yesterday by a dissident group of Rastriya Prajatantra Party.
"There is no question of my resignation," he said after a meeting with King Gyanendra.
