NCP can support Congress: Sangma
Rajkot,Dec 04: NCP on Wednesday said in the event of a fractured verdict in the December 12 assembly polls in Gujarat, the party `would consider` extending support to Congress.
Party General Secretary P A Sangma told reporters that this possibility "could not be ruled out", if the situation warranted it.
Terming as "unfortunate" the alleged attempt by BJP to make communal riots an "issue for the polls", Sangma said this would not only cause damage to Gujarat but the entire country.
Sangma, who was here in connection with the party campaign, said that elections should only be fought on the development agenda. He said it was the duty of all political parties to establish communal harmony and therefore, NCP found the need of a third force.
"The Congress and BJP have ruled the state and the people wanted a change," he said, adding the third front has fielded 132 candidates, of which NCP has 81 candidates.
Sangma, meanwhile, opposed the idea of a person with a foreign origin occupying the Prime Minister's post.
It was "unfortunate" that out of the 100 million people in the country, there was "no Indian capable" for the post, he said.
