Jammu, Jan 08: The Jammu and Kashmir government is planning to set up a world-class satellite township in Srinagar that would be a unique blend of Kashmiri heritage and modern architecture. Proposed to be named as 'Shehjaar', meaning pleasant shade of Chinar, the township will be spread over 6000 Kanals of land with about 8000 dwelling units for different income groups with top class civic amenities, according to an official release.
Agreeing to the proposal in principal, Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has asked the state finance minister, Muzaffar Baig and Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Ghulam Hassan Mir to look into the details of the project before final approval is accorded to the multi-crore project.
The estimated cost of the project, excluding the land price, is Rs 550 crore and is expected to be completed in two years time.
The dwelling units would be centrally heated and will have provisions for bus terminal, multi disciplinary hospital, multiplex, commercial establishments, markets, shopping malls, parks, green patches, schools, cultural centres, club and sports stadium. A convention centre would also be added to the proposed facilities.
The proposed site for the township is Gundaksh behind skims medical college and would developed by a private developer Omaxe Construction Limited of New Delhi, in collaboration with Srinagar Development Authority.
The site has access to national highway by-pass besides connectivity with Srinagar airport and adjoining famous bird sanctuary Hokersar. Bureau Report
