Itanagar, July 10: Torrential rains from the past one week in Arunachal Pradesh have resulted in major rivers flowing in spate, besides flash floods, landslides, inundated residential areas and roads and some areas being cut off completely, official sources said here today. There was, however, no casualty and the administration is monitoring the situation closely, they said. Tezu, headquarter of Lohit district, was cut-off for the sixth day today following landslides and erosion of roads.


Tezu recorded 278.80 mm rainfall yesterday while Loilang recorded 298 mm, Tafragram 209 mm and Hayuliang 261.08 mm.
Link between Tezu-Hayuliang, Hayuliang-Walong-Tezu and Tinsukia in Assam, the gateway of the district, was also affected, they said.

The Dibang Valley district, one of the worst affected, witnessed large scale landslides due to rains, which washed away roads at Roing and caused river Deopani to flow above the danger level, besides inundating several other areas.

The district headquarter town Anini faced shortage of essential commodities, the sources said.

Rivers Lohit, the Noa Dihing and the tributaries flowed above danger level submerging some of the banks, they said, adding flash floods also submerged residential areas and agricultural land. Two houses were also washed away by flash floods at Krishnapur village. Road communication between Bhalukpong-Bomdila and Dirang in the district was affected due to landslides at several places.
