Lucknow, Jun 02: With the needle of suspicion in the Madhumita Shukla murder case pointing towards former state minister Amar Mani Tripathi, the CB-CID is likely to quiz the minister soon, highly placed sources in the agency said here today.
The minister was likely to be questioned very soon in view of the overwhelming evidence showing that the minister had an intimate relationship with the slain poetess, the sources said.
Recovery of railway coupons worth Rs 50 thousand issued in the name of Tripathi from Madhumita's residence, her diary containing details of her relationship with the minister and the statement of the poetess' domestic help Deshraj had clearly established that Tripathi enjoyed close relationship with Madhumita, sources claimed.
Madhumita's sister Nidhi had earlier alleged that the minister was having an affair with the poetess and that her sister had been killed at the behest of the minister's wife, who did not approve of their relationship. She later retracted her statement. Speaking to newsmen at her residence in Lakhimpur-Kheri district yesterday, Madhumita's mother Shanti Devi said that only a CBI inquiry could unravel the mystery surrounding her daughter's murder. Bureau Report
