Patna, July 26: With no let up in the overall flood situation in Bihar, the army intensified relief and rescue operations in the worst-hit districts of Sitamarhi, Darbhanga, Sheohar and Madhubani as the death toll in the floods touched 75 today.
Official sources said that 26 more deaths were reported from flood-hit Supaul and Gopalganj districts during the last 24 hours taking the toll in the current spell of floods to 75. Twenty persons were feared dead when a country-boat capsized in the midstream of swollen Kosi near Banainiya village in Supaul district last evening. Local divers were pressed into service to locate the bodies believed to have been swept away by heavy current.
Four members of a family, including two kids, got drowned when they were sailing in a small boat to a safer place from Harpur village under Yadavpur police station in Gopalganj district today. Two person were drowned in a boat mishap in the district yesterday.
Fifteen people were feared drowned in a boat mishap in flood-hit Madhubani district on Wednesday while eight people lost their lives in Sitamarhi and six in Darbhanga. Earlier, Muzaffarpur accounted for six deaths followed by Munger (5), Supaul (7) and Sheohar (2).
Nearly four-and-a-half million people were affected by floods in over 6,000 villages spread over 110 blocks in 16 districts in Bihar so far, relief and rehabilitation department sources said.
