New Delhi, Sept 28: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav today had an hour-long meeting with his coalition partner and Rashtriya Lok Dal chief Ajit Singh to finalise Cabinet expansion in the state.
Though nothing concrete was known as to what has been finally decided, the RLD chief later told reporters that they "discussed various issues, including the imminent Cabinet expansion in the state."
But nothing has been finalised yet, he added. Yadav, who is under pressure from the allies to expand his Council of ministers, would be meeting other coalition partners, including Rashtriya Kranti Party (RKP) chief Kalyan Singh and crucial Independent MLAs who form the backbone of the newly sworn-in coalition government.
After assuming charge, Yadav has appointed six Cabinet ministers, including two from the RLD, two from RKP and two from his Samajwadi Party and had declared that a full-fledged Cabinet expansion would take place after proving his majority in the House. The 16-member Congress party, despite Yadav's request, has decided to back the Yadav government "for the time being" only from the outside. Bureau Report
