Srinagar, Oct 29: The Jammu and Kashmir government today said the crisis arising out of the scarcity of essential commodities especially rice and wheat in the valley would be over shortly as the Food Corporation of India (FCI) has agreed to dispatch quality foodgrains. The month-long scarcity of foodgrains at the government- run outlets was a result of a tussle between state Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department, and the FCI over the quality of rice, official sources said.
The state Consumer Affairs Minister, Taj Mohiuddin said that during his meeting with FCI Chairman Prem Kumar today, he was assured that adequate quantity of foodgrains would be supplied to the Kashmir valley.
Blaming FCI for the crisis, the minister said the department has let us down at a crucial time when the holy month of Ramzan has begun.
He said he had personally approached the management of FCI in July for adequate stock of the foodgrains.
