East Rutherford, Dec 03: The New York Jets hold on to defeat the favored Tennessee Titans 24-17 on Monday NIght Football.
All the pre-game attention was on injured Tennessee quarterback Steve McNair but it was Chad Pennington who stole the show on Monday (December 1), leading the New York Jets to a 24-17 win over the Titans in the NFL. Pennington was flawless in the second half, completing all eight of his pass attempts for 134 yards and two touchdowns to lead the New York Jets to a 24-17 victory over the Tennessee Titans. The loss ended a six-game winning run for the Titans, who share first place with the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC South and host them next weekend. McNair, the NFL leader in quarterback rating, played throughout, despite being hampered by a strained right calf. He threw for 272 yards and two touchdowns for Tennessee.

But it was Pennington who stole the show. The league leader in passer rating last season in his first year as a starter, Pennington hit Kevin Swayne with a 27-yard touchdown with 3:32 left in the third quarter to snap a 10-10 tie and connected with Curtis Conway on an eight-yard scoring play with 10:45 remaining.

The Titans pulled within 24-17 on an eight-yard touchdown pass from McNair to Derrick Mason with 1:52 left. But Chris Baker recovered the ensuing on-side kick and the Jets (5-7) ran out the clock.
