New Delhi, Oct 10: The Rajiv Gandhi Memorial at Sriperumbudur will be dedicated to the nation by President A P J Abdul Kalam today. Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated at Sriperumbudur, 42 km from Chennai, on May 21, 1991 and the government decided to erect a memorial there as a mark of respect to him. While the Tamil Nadu government gave 12.19 acres of land free of cost, the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) developed the memorial at a cost of Rs 21.15 crore, according to an official release here today.
