Jerusalem, Apr 09: A special section featuring works and compilation of letters by prominent Indian leaders, including Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru, has been opened at the Hebrew University library here. The section, which also features vast collection of general literature related to India, at The Truman Institute Library of the University is dedicated to Professor Reuven Kahane, a prominent Indologist who passed away last year.
Kahane's widow, Israela, who generously contributed a lot of the literature for the section said, "Reuven was in love with India, never missing an opportunity to visit that country during the last 30 years. I hope this effort will generate new interest in students to pursue research on India, a model for co-existence in such diversity".
Kahane spent two years at the Delhi university as a visiting Professor and wrote extensively on diverse aspects of Indian society and politics. He was working on a book on Higher Education in India at the time of his demise. Bureau Report
