Patna, June 22: Alarmed by intelligence reports, Bihar government has engaged a special task force (STF) squad in Bagaha, adjacent to Indo-Nepal border in West Champaran district, to intensify combing operation against activists of the Communist Party of Nepal.
Inspector General of Police (operation), Neelmani today said this followed intelligence reports that Maoists had sneaked into forest areas in west Champaran district and the banned Maoist Communist Centre (MCC) ultras were providing shelter to them.
The STF squad was moved to Bagaha from Motihari and was combing the area for MCC and Maoist guerrillas, he said.
Several Maoists, including its coordinator Narendra Kumar alias Osho, have been arrested by the east and west Champaran police in the past few months, sources said. "It had been established that MCC was imparting training to the Maoist guerrillas of Nepal in hilly terrain of Jharkhand and Bihar," they added.
The 735 km-long porous Indo-Nepal border was presently being policed by 54 police stations and eight police outposts in eight districts in Bihar, the sources said.
