Srinagar, Nov 05: Calling upon non-resident Kashmiri
doctors to return to their homeland to serve the people, Jammu
and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today said
his government would encourage establishment of private health
institutions to supplement government infrastructure.
"Health and education are getting priority attention of
the government as these deal with the common men," Sayeed said
speaking at a function here.
He said that, on the lines of the policy to extend quality education to poor children in public schools, there was a need to have a policy in health department under which patients belonging to poor families could get specialized and expensive treatment within the state free of cost.
The Chief Minister asked Health Minister Choudhary Lal Singh, present on the occasion, to draw up a policy to encourage setting up of private health institutions of excellence in the state.
Sayeed emphasized the need of setting up of a voluntary medical aid trust for the underprivileged. "While medical science has touched new heights, it remains beyond the reach of a majority of the population," he said.
