Mumbai: National-award winning filmmaker Hansal Mehta's real life inspired drama "Aligarh" will hit theatre on February 26 next year. Starring Manoj Bajpayee and Rajkummar Rao in the lead, the film is based on the true incident of Dr Shrinivas Ramchandra Siras, who was terminated from his job because of his sexual-orientation.

Siras, who was the professor of Marathi at the Aligarh Muslim University, later committed suicide. "Eros International and Hansal Mehta's much-awaited critically acclaimed film 'Aligarh', starring Manoj Bajpayee and Rajkummar Rao, to release on February 26, 2016," a statement read.

The film received a standing ovation at its World premiere at the prestigious 20th Busan International Film Festival in October 2015 and shortly thereafter opened to packed houses at
the 59th BFI London Film Festival.
