Barrymore, 40, who made her film debut in "Altered States" when she was five-year-old, said she needs to take out time for her two daughters with husband Will Kopelman, Olive, three and 17-month-old Frankie, reported Entertainment Weekly.

"My whole universe revolves around my children, and the hours keep me away from them too much. I'm not willing to do that... Any acting roles will be few and far between until my kids are older... And by then, who knows what I'll want to do?

"By no means am I abandoning acting. Nor am I pretending that I don't love acting, but I cannot do it right now, with my children," she said.

The actress has significantly reduced her movie appearances, and will be next seen in "Miss You Already", in which she plays a woman, whose best friend (Toni Collette) is diagnosed with terminal cancer.
