The film based on JK Rowling's 2001 encyclopedia showing magical creatures from around the wizarding world, reported Entertainment Weekly.

The makers have released the first glimpse of the title in steel grey colour and toothy, serpentine design.

"Fantastic Beasts" stars Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne as magizoologist, Newt Scamander and is set in New York in 1926, 70 years before Harry Potter reads Scamanders book in his wizarding school.

Katherine Waterston and Alison Sudol star as witch sisters Tina and Queenie. Ezra Miller plays a wizard named Credence while Dan Fogler portrays a Muggle named Jacob. Colin Farrell is also in the cast, playing Graves.

The movie follows Scamanders adventures in New York, where he travels to discover and document more magical creatures.

Inspired by Hogwarts textbook of the same name, "Fantastic Beasts" is slated for a US release on December 18, 2016.

David Yates is helming the project written by author JK Rowling.
