According to a report in Indiawest.com, producers Mukesh Bhatt, Bhushan Kumar and Krishen Kumar had applied for an Adults Only certificate for the film which didn't get clear initially.

Reportedly, the Board had a problem with the many cuss words, long kissing scenes and a few drug-addiction scenes and therefore had asked for 18 cuts.

According to the makers, since the leading man of the film is portrayed as a drug addict, and the story of the film shows his rehabilitation, it was important to show what the movie is showing.
