We were asked to add girls in shorts on poster: Pan Nalin
Film director Pan Nalin says his upcoming `female buddy` flick `Angry Indian Goddesses` faced a challenging time getting a distributor to release it, with some of them even asking to put `girls in shorts` on the poster.
Mumbai: Film director Pan Nalin says his upcoming 'female buddy' flick 'Angry Indian Goddesses' faced a challenging time getting a distributor to release it, with some of them even asking to put "girls in shorts" on the poster.
Asked about the arguments distributors gave regarding the film, Nalin said, "There were all kinds of arguments, including Indian audiences are not ready to watch such kinds of films. They also asked us if we could put certain girls in shorts on the poster."
"When I went around at that time the first reaction was that women just can not open the box-office. They gave me names of 50 films with female superstars in lead roles and said each of them had flopped" he added.
The makers unveiled the trailer of the film here in presence of starcast, including Sandhya Mridul, Sarah-Jane Dias and Anushka Manchanda.
The director said the film is an entertainer without any loud message about women issues but despite that the makers had a really tough time getting a distributor.
"... it is a star-driven and studio-driven industry. I think Indian patrons are totally ready to receive a great story, but in between there is a desert and to bridge the gap between distributor and exhibitor was very tough," he recalled.
'Angry Indian Goddesses' is reportedly set to release with 'Prem ratan Dhan Payo'.
