Beijing, Aug 24: The newly proven reserves of a natural gas field in north China's inner Mongolia has grown by 313.1 billion cubic metre, making it the largest natural gas field in China, media reports said here. The figure brings the total proven reserves in the Sulige natural gas field to 533.6 billion cubic metre, Guaming daily reported, citing figures issued by the Ministry of Land and Resources.
Located in the rural part of Ordos city, the gas field is covered by desert.
Large-scale exploration began in the field in 1999, and the proven reserves of the field was 220 billion cubic metre in 2001.
Gas transmission pipelines are being laid to supply natural gas from the field to Baotou and Hohhot cities in inner Mongolia, according to the report.
