Kolkata, Sept 21: The BJP as part of a nationwide drive has taken up a massive programme in West Bengal to educate its panchayat leaders on the Central projects for rural development. The state BJP general secretary, Rahul Sinha, told reporters here today that the exercise was necessary as 80 per cent of central funds under these projects would were made available to the panchayat bodies directly and hence people should be made aware of them.

He said that the party's central leader, Ashwini Kumar, would make a two-day visit to the state in this regard from September 26. Kumar would particularly visit Bankura and Hooghly districts and interact with people to ascertain their knowledge about rural development projects. The party would also organise seven conferences at different places in the state between October 10 and October 30 in the presence of all India president of the party's panchayat cell, Bibhuti Narayan Singh, and several other central leaders to educate the members who have either won the panchayat election or contested it but failed to win.

Sinha said that there were 2000 leaders who have won the panchayat election of whom at least 100 members were holding position in the panchayat bodies.
