Riot panel records depositions of Chamanpura victims/witnesses
Ahmedabad, Aug 29: A witness from Chamanpura area of the city, where nearly 39 people including former Congress MP Ehsaan Jafri were charred to death in post-Godhra violence last year, today claimed to have met a youth, who told him that he had received splinter injuries due to firing by Jafri at the Gulbarg society.

last year, today claimed to have met a youth, who told him
that he had received splinter injuries due to firing by Jafri
at the Gulbarg society.
"While going towards a travel agency located right
opposite the Gulbarg society, I met the injured youth Prahlad
Rajuji, who told me that he had received bullet splinter
injuries due to firing by Ehsaan Jafri. I told him to go to
the hospital", the witness Ranjeetsinh Rajput told Justice
(Retd) G T Nanavati and Justice (Retd) K G Shah of the two-man
riot inquiry commission here.
During cross examination by S H Qureshi, Rajput said he
met the injured youth at 1 pm on February 28 last year, the
day when communal violence erupted in the city.
Another witness Dr Prahlad Mohanbhai, who runs a clinic near the society and used five ambulances to take the several injured riot victims to various hospitals, told the panel that "on March 1 last year, when I went to the Gulbarg society to attend to the injured, seven were charred beyond recognition while three were comparitively less injured."
He also said that on February 28 he had made three trips after receiving distress calls from the society and nearby areas but could not go inside due to heavy confrontation between the residents and police. Bureau Report
