New Delhi, May 19: Canadian exploration firm Niko Resources Ltd has struck more gas in its Surat block in onshore Gujarat. Niko, which had previously discovered gas reserves in four out of the six wells drilled in the Surat block, has completed drilling of 6 additional wells, three of them flowing gas, company sources said here.
Well NS-A1 (7th well) gave 6.7 million cubic feet per day gas while well NS-A2 flowed 4 million cubic feet per day of gas. Well NS-A3 encountered gas on the edge of the structure and confirmed the field gas water contact.
"These results combined with the earlier results from NS-4 (the sixth well) confirm discovery of a 16 square kilometer shallow gas field with net gas pays up to 35 metres thick," they said. Wells NS-5, NS-6 and NS-7 were abandoned with NS-5 recovering heavy crude oil in sub-commercial quantities. The company is currently drilling NS-8.
Sources said, "These are exceptional flow rates for shallow wells indicative of excellent reservoir and sizable reserves. We expect this low cost field to be on production by November."
NS-4, the sixth well on the block, had flowed 2.66 million cubic feet per day of gas. However, the exact quantity of reserves was yet to be established, they said.
Niko has 100 per cent interest in the 419-sq km CB-ONN-2000/2 block near Surat adjacent to its trillion cubic feet Hazira gas field in Gujarat. Bureau Report
