New Delhi, Dec 18: No liability has been incurred either by the Centre or the Maharashtra government as a result of mutual settlement or an arbitration award in relation to Dabhol power project, Minister of State for Power Jayawanti Mehta informed the Lok Sabha today. To a specific query whether the offshore lenders to the project have initiated a claim for Rs 722 crore from the Centre, the minister said that according to the finance ministry no liability has so far arisen which requires the government to honour such claims.

Some foreign as well as Indian companies have evinced interest in acquiring the interests of the offshore sponsors in Dabhol Power Company (DPC), the minister said in a written reply. The role of the Centre in restructuring and restarting the plant is that of a facilitator and the decision in the matter including the possible induction of new sponsors is to be taken by the stake holders concerned subject to the settlement of the various ongoing legal proceedings, she said.
