Indira Gandhi`s portrait unveiled in Somerville College
Oxford (UK), Nov 29: Three decades after she was honoured with a doctorate at Oxford, former prime minister Indira Gandhi`s portrait was unveiled at the Somerville College by her daughter-in-law and Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
Oxford (UK), Nov 29: Three decades after she was honoured with a doctorate at Oxford, former prime minister Indira Gandhi's portrait was unveiled at the Somerville College by her daughter-in-law and Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
"It is a matter of pride to all of us Indians that Somerville College is honouring Indira Gandhi today," Sonia Gandhi said in her brief address after unveiling the portrait.
Earlier, Gandhi formally presented the portrait to the Principal of the college Dame Fiona Caldicott.
The portrait will be displayed at the Margaret Thatcher Centre in the college. Somerville College was established in 1879 and apart from Indira Gandhi, its prominent alumni include Margaret Thatcher, Shirley Williams, Vera Brittain,and Iris Murdoch.
