Report by: Jyoti Rathi Raghavan I think heroic deeds were all conceived in the open air, and all free poems also,
I think I could stop here myself and do miracles,
I think whatever I should meet on the road I shall like,
and whoever beholds me shall like me,
I think whoever I see must be happy.
Walt Whitman; Song of Open Road Like Whitman, I also thought every body is happy when I visited Mount Rainier. In the open arms of Mother Nature what else can you expect except happiness and complete bliss? Purity of white snow, grace of age-old trees, colors of vibrant wildflowers, and an open road! Its just the perfect place to discover or rediscover yourself.
One of the world’s most active volcanoes, Mt Rainier is called the offspring of fire and ice. It is the tallest peak in the Cascade range-about 14,410 ft- floating alone among the clouds. This is the first thing you see while landing at Seattle-Tacoma Airport.
The majestic mountain with snow covered peaks and bountiful natural beauty is a must visit place for every adventurer. It is one of the most enchanting national parks of Northwest USA. Situated about 95 miles south from Seattle-an equally beautiful city- Mount Rainier National Park has all an adventurer and nature lover would like to see. From Seattle, it’s about a three-hour drive.
“Road to Paradise.” That’s how I would describe my journey to Mount Rainier National Park. While traveling, you can stroll through dense forest of pine trees (some trees nearly a thousand years old), beautiful lakes and huge waterfalls originating from age-old glaciers and of course cherry fields.
In Mt Rainier National Park, Mount Rainier is not the only attraction. It is the paradise for hikers. The wide and not-so-steep trails offer breathtakingly beautiful landscape, scenic beauty, grass carpeted meadows, range of colorful wildflower, creeks and naturally sculpted rocks. For bird lovers, there is a variety of birds nestling in the woods. You can listen to a mysterious song of birds or just enjoy a horse-ride in the Mount Rainier’s foothills.
In winters, Mt Rainier creates its own clouds. So you might not see the giant view of Rainier but then you can ski, play with delicate snowflakes or build campfires.
And as Whitman said you can stop here and do miracles. The generosity of nature will inspire you to be more than you are, to give more than you possess and to have moments you will treasure for the lifetime! So, O adventurer! hasten towards nature, take in the fresh air, savor the greenery, indulge yourself. Rainier is waiting! Statistics:
