Bhopal, Dec 03: A compensation of Rs 1520.56 crore has been paid till October 31 this year to 5,68,373 victims of the Bhopal gas disaster of December 1984.
Gas relief and welfare minister Arif Aqueel told reporters today that 10,29,515 claims for compensation had been filed before the special courts and 5,68,373 had been accepted.
The remaining 4,60,892 claims had been rejected, he said.
He said the Madhya Pradesh government had submitted to the Centre proposals of Rs 1755 crore for various schemes relating to the welfare of the gas victims.

These included Rs 400 crore for setting up a fund to set up small units for the gas victims, Rs 50 crore for destroying contaminated material still lying inside the premises of the union carbide factory, Rs 10 crore for preparing identity cards for victims, Rs 45 crore for tanks and pipes for distributing water and Rs 725 crore for bringing the water of river Narmada to the city, the minister said.
