India is expected to sign an extradition treaty with Turkey facilitating exchange of criminals wanted in either country and for cooperation in fighting global terrorism, during Union home minister L K Advani`s four-day visit to Ankara beginning Wednesday.
The signing of the treaty, which was to be done in January this year, had to be postponed after Advani cancelled his visit to Turkey following the devastating earthquake in Gujarat.

The suggestion to have cooperation at the home ministry level was mooted by Turkish Prime Minister and philosopher-politician Bulent Ecevit during his visit to India last year.

Commenting on the Home Minister`s maiden visit, which begins late Wednesday night, Indian ambassador to Turkey M K Bhadrakumar said, ”This is the first time there has been a visit at the level of the home minister to Turkey, marking a recent upswing in bilateral ties characterised by regular exchanges at the political level.” Bureau Report
