Chandigarh, Aug 13: The proposed pen-down strike called by the Punjab Civil Medical Services Association doctors today demanding restoration of non practicing allowance has been called off after the state government agreed to appoint an expert committee to look into the issue. The decision was taken last night after a series of negotiations between PCMS leaders, state health minister R C Dogra, chairman of the Punjab health system corporation C D S Kamboj, principal secretary, health and family welfare, D S Jaspal and other senior officials.
The expert committee would examine the issue of NPA in the context of ensuring effective delivery of services, particularly in rural areas, eliminating private practice and curbing absenteeism among doctors.
The two factions of PCMS associations were headed by M S Randhawa and Hardeep Singh.
"Nearly 4000 doctors were to go on pen down strike today, but following our discussions with the government on the issue, we have decided to suspend the stir for the time being," Dr Hardeep Singh said.
