Lucknow, Oct 27: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati today refuted Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh's charge that the state chief secretary had threatened to implicate him in cases of murder and rape if he continued to interfere in on-going political developments in the state. In a statement here, Mayawati said after speaking to chief secretary D S Bagga, she found he never spoke to Singh on telephone or through any other medium.
The chief minister said the baseless allegation levelled by Singh was borne out of his party's frustration in failing to dislodge her government.
Earlier, talking to reporters here, Amar Singh alleged Bagga threatened him over telephone to implicate him in murder and rape cases if he continued to interfere in current political developments in the state.
The chief minister denied that the recent police action against some independent legislators was politically motivated saying her government believed in the rule of law.

"Action will be taken against anyone who violates law without any discrimination," she said adding the recent police action against some MLAs was legal and completely based upon facts.
She said complaints were received against some MLAs which were examined at local level, adding it was unfortunate that the SP, instead of taking it in good spirit, was trying to give it a political colour.
"This shows that Amar Singh, his party, concerned MLAs and their supporters have no faith in democracy and law," she said. Bureau Report
