Patna, July 10: There was no let up in the overall flood situation in Bihar today with major rivers in spate following torrential rains in their catchment areas during the past 48 hours as the death toll in the current spell of floods rose to 13. Two deaths were reported from Madhubani district last evening raising the toll to 13, official sources said.

Nearly half-a-million people in Madhubani, Sitamarhi, Darbhanga, Sheohar, Muzaffarpur, Saran East and West Champaran and Kishanganj districts continued to reel under the impact of the floods.

According to the central water commission report, almost all the rivers including Burhi Gandak, Bagmati, Kamala Balan, Kosi and Mahananda were flowing above the danger mark at different points along their courses.

State water resources department sources claimed that all major embankments were safe with engineers continuing to maintain round-the-clock vigil at places where rivers were putting pressure or erosions were taking place.
