Centre sanctions Rs 62.50 crore for Yamuna action plan
Chandigarh, Feb 17: The Centre has sanctioned Rs 62.50 crore under the second phase of Yamuna action plan to provide sewerage facilities in the towns of Panipat, Sonipat, Gurgaon, Faridabad, Karnal and Yamunanagar, an official spokesman said today.

Presently, there were 13 sewage treatment plants to
protect the Yamuna water from pollution and work to set up
such plants in Chhachhrauli, Radaur, Indri, Gharaunda and
Palwal was in progress, he said. Supply of potable water has
increased in the last three years in 1811 villages.
Under the desert development programme, water supply at the rate of 70 litres per head per day has been provided in 279 villages at a cost of Rs 275.32 crore, the spokesman said.
Rs 14.60 crore was being spent to reduce the flouride content in water in Rewari and Mahendragarh districts, he said, adding 165 of a total of 191 villages affected by the problem had been covered so far. The state government was incurring a sum of Rs 13.69 crore for undertaking sewerage disposal schemes which include solid waste management, setting up of pumping stations, laying of underground pipelines and construction of big underground sewerage drains.
The state government has allocated Rs 140 crore during the current financial year for providing drinking water facility in rural and urban areas of the state as against Rs 92.50 crore spent in last year, he said, adding the Centre has sanctioned Rs 37.71 crore under the accelerated water supply scheme for 17 towns of the state.
