Mumbai, Dec 09: Seven years after the trial in 1993 bomb blast case commenced in a special court here, CBI today wound up its argument and closed its case even as designated judge withdrew his order permitting film actor Sanjay Dutt and three other accused to leave the jurisdiction of the court.
CBI today failed to produce written arguments after repeated opportunities given earlier and sought time for two weeks to file submissions. However, the designated judge P D
Kode rejected the plea of prosecutor A S Kulaye.
Thereupon special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam said he was closing the case of the prosecution.
The judge then directed 89 accused, including Sanjay Dutt, to appear on December 20 when he would announce the date of judgement. About 28 other accused are already in custody.
On a prosecution plea, the judge withdrew his order which permitted accused Sanjay Dutt, Russi Mulla, Samir Hingora and Salim Durrani to leave the city for professional work.
Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam objected to such a blanket permission when the prosecution had concluded its argument and verdict was about to be delivered.
In a related development, the judge ordered the accused on bail to appear once in a fortnight. He, however, rejected the prosecutor's plea to direct the accused to appear before the nearest police station in their respective areas daily until the judgement was delivered. Bureau Report
