Troops shot dead two militants and defused a powerful bomb in the restive valley overnight, an official spokesman said on Tuesday. The ultras were killed last evening during a search at Lam, Tral in south Kashmir. Two AK rifles, four magazines and 50 rounds were hauled in from the slain extremists.
Four security personnel were also injured in the encounter.
But the local people took to streets and alleged those killed were innocent civilians. In a separate incident, security personnel averted a major tragedy when they detected and defused a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted on Sopore-Kupwara road Tuesday morning.
The body of a civilian, Ghulam Hassan Peer, who was abducted by militants on December ten for alleged links with security forces, was recovered at Kupwara forest Monday night.
