Dhaka, Sept 08: Bangladeshi Prime Minister Khaleda Zia today warned the main opposition Awami League of `retaliation` if it carries out anti-government street campaigns as parliament prepares for a new session.
Dhaka, Sept 08: Bangladeshi Prime Minister Khaleda Zia today warned the main opposition Awami League of "retaliation" if it carries out anti-government street campaigns as parliament prepares for a new session.
"If the Awami League undertook any unnecessary street campaign we would retaliate with political programmes," she was quoted as saying by the mass-circulation daily Jugantor newspaper at a meeting of her ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
"This time we will not be generous as we were to them during our 1991-1996 rule," she added.
The warning came as Awami League leader and Zia's arch-rival, Sheikh Hasina Wajed, threatened to build resistance to what she called "anti-people" activities.
