Gandhinagar, Mar 21: The Gujarat Assembly today witnessed pandemonium after opposition congress and ruling BJP members locked horns over the sensitive issue of cow slaughter following certain remarks made by Minister of State for Home Amit Shah against the Congress. Shah's remarks, made while replying to a question by Shivji Ahir (Cong), provoked an angry protest from entire opposition which maintained that "cow protection is not the sole right of the saffron party and the minister has hurt the sentiments of their party". Leader of opposition Amarsinh Chaudhary, vehemently demanded that minister's remark must be expunged from proceedings.
Chaudhary alleged that "the Congress has never used the issue of cows to garner votes, unlike BJP" even as opposition stuck to their demand that Shah takes back his words or his remarks be expunged from records. Later, the minister of state for home took his words back to the satisfaction of the opposition.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ashok Bhatt said "we (BJP) are happy to know that congress is more religious in following Hindu religion...It is probably the magical spell of chief minister Narendra Modi".

Later, Shah said "the state government has registered 487 cases of illegal cow slaughter, arrested 1214 persons and impounded 470 vehicles".
The minister said BJP government was the first to invoke Pasa against those indulging in cow slaughter and 37 butchers have been booked under the law. Bureau Report
