Hindalco to start expanded copper unit in mid-July

The company has raised the capacity of its smelter at Dahej in Gujarat to 250,000 tonnes a year from 150,000 tonnes.
"We have just completed mechanical commissioning and are now heating the furnace to begin copper production," the official, who declined to be identified, said. "The heating process will take about a week and output at the expanded plant is expected to begin in mid-July."

He said production at the smelter would stabilise three months after that.
Hindalco recently took over the copper unit of the affiliated Indo Gulf Corporation as part of a group restructuring.
