New Delhi, Oct 24: Accusing Indian Council for Historical Research (ICHR) chairman M G S Narayanan of "mixing up his facts", NCERT today said it was surprised at his remarks made regarding various references in the textbooks.
"We are surprised that a historian of Narayanan's repute could make such wild charges. The map on the Sangam Age published in the Social Sciences textbooks for class 6 indeed mentions Gangaikondacholapuram and Thanjavur. But this is a well known way of juxtaposing cities on maps of the ancient world to give the reader a sense of the geographical location of the vanished town," NCERT director J S Rajput said in a statement here.
Citing another example, where Naraynan mentions Tiruchi, though shown on map actually appears neither there nor in the text, Rajput said, "If he had made even a casual attempt at verification of the whisper campaign already launched against NCERT, he would have seen there is nothing wrong in the text accompanying these maps."
"Joining the bandwagon of those busy in finding faults with new NCERT textbooks, Narayanan has mixed up his facts," the statement added.
