Klusener to lead invitational team against West Indies
Durban, Nov 25: All-rounder Lance Klusener is back in favour to captain a South African invitation XI in a friendly opening match against the West Indies who will tour here from early next month.
Klusener was dropped from the national side for England
and Pakistan tours after poor performance in the World Cup and
verbal confrontations with captain Graeme Smith early this
year.
The move appeared to be an attempt to rehabilitate the
discarded cricketer, who has scored prolifically in domestic
cricket this summer, and has bowled with something approaching
his old form.
The 45-over match will be played on December 03 in
Johannesburg.
The West Indians, who are currently in Zimbabwe, will
play a series of five one-day internationals and four Test
matches in December and January.
Klusener will be one among five former internationals who
will play against the West Indians in the opening invitation
match.
The others are wicketkeeper-batsman Morne Van Wyk, seamer
Victor Mpitsang, batsman Ashwell Prince and left-arm seamer
Charl Willoughby.
