Ahmedabad, Feb 15: Amidst tight security, the Common Entrance Test (CAT) for the prestigious Indian Institute of Managament (IIM) courses, rescheduled after being cancelled in November following leakage of question papers, was held today in 26 cities across the country. "The re-test conducted under tight security was very successful. Around 1.27 lakh students registered for the CAT re-test across the nation in 26 cities and wrote their exams smoothly," Bakul Dholakia, Director IIM (Ahmedabad), told reporters here.

"We had taken several precautionary measures including changing the press where questions papers are printed, having additional security both at the exam centres and during the transportation of the trunks carrying the question papers," he added.

Dholakia said, "The focus of all IIMs would be to ensure that the next academic session starts in the last week of June 2004 as per original schedule.
"It is expected that the short-listing of candidates for personal interview and group discussion will be done by first week of March and the process of conducting personal interviews and group discussion will start from last week of March. The CAT group has decided that admissions to IIMs will be finalised by first week of May," he said.
For the first time in 28 years, the CAT exams were cancelled in November last year after the CBI busted a gang, headed by a doctor, that allegedly leaked the question paper and sold it to candidates. Bureau Report
